CHECKBOOK ASSISTANT
PREPARATION:
It is suggested that you first put a write protect tab on the master disk and
print the CHECKBOOK ASSISTANT Manual, by typing at the DOS prompt,
COPY CA-DOC PRN
If you format a blank disk with the system command (FORMAT A:/S) there may NOT
be enough room on the disk to copy all of the files on the master disk.
To make a working disk, copy all the files with the exception of this READ.ME
file, and the CA-DOC file. (Ex. at the DOS prompt type COPY CA.* B:)
MONTH CHECK FILE:
CHECKBOOK ASSISTANT uses information within the FINANCIAL PORTFOLIO section
when it "makes" a MONTH CHECK file. The MONTH CHECK file contains information
concerning your bank account, income and libailities, which it provides for
use within the TRANSACTION screens. Whenever CHECKBOOK ASSISTANT is run for
the 1st time during a month, the MONTH CHECK file for that month is not pres-
ent and the program prompts you whether it should make it or not. If you
have NOT added your information to the FINANCIAL PORTFOLIO section (account,
income and liabilities) then answer this prompt "NO". Any information added
to the FINANCIAL PORTFOLIO section during the month will NOT appear in the
present MONTH CHECK file. Only after the next MONTH CHECK file is made will
all the information currently available (in the FINANCIAL PORTFOLIO) be
carried over.
ON LINE HELP:
In order to get on-line help the CA.HLP file must be on the default drive and
if you are using a subdirectory, the logged subdirectory.
COLOR MODE:
On start up, CHECKBOOK ASSISTANT automatically determines the type of display
card in your system. If you have a CGA type display card with a composite
monitor attached, the program can NOT determine whether your monitor can
display color. If you have a monochrome composite monitor attached to a Color
Graphics Adapter (CGA) card, it will be necessary for you to override the
automatic decision making process.
Select "SETUP" from the MAIN MENU and select display mode "MONO" from the
configuration menu. If you need further information, please refer to chapter
7 of the USER MANUAL.
PRIMARY DATA DRIVE:
CHECKBOOK ASSISTANT is loaded and run from the default drive and expects ONLY
to find the configuration and help files on the default drive. For the DATA
files however, you have to tell CHECKBOOK ASSISTANT where it can find them.
The configuration file, as supplied on the master disk, is configured to tell
CHECKBOOK ASSISTANT to look for the data files on drive "A", and during the
initialization of the program, CHECKBOOK ASSISTANT checks to determine if the
files are present.
If you have a hard disk and copy all the files to the hard disk, then the
FIRST TIME that you run CHECKBOOK ASSISTANT it will be necessary for you to put
the master disk in drive "A" and select "SETUP" from the MAIN MENU. Then under
PRIMARY DATA DRIVE select "C" from the configuration menu. If you need further
information, please refer to chapter 7 of the USER MANUAL.
